Meet Serenity

Tell us a little about your agency, Serenity.
Serenity is a strategic design partner for purpose-driven organizations. We help teams align their mission, messaging, and digital tools so they can communicate clearly, build trust, and scale their impact. Our work blends strategy, storytelling, and systems thinking to create experiences that are not only beautiful but deeply aligned with who our clients are and what they stand for.
We’re not an agency. We’re not just a studio. We’re a hybrid practice: equal parts design, consulting, and creative direction. Everything we do is built to bring clarity across every touchpoint.
Whether launching a new initiative, evolving an existing brand, or building platforms to serve real communities, we design solutions that connect the dots between mission and message, intention and experience.

What are you best known for? What do you do better than everyone else?
We’re known for turning complexity into clarity — and making sure everything connects. Clients may not always have the words for it, but they feel the difference in how intentional and aligned the work becomes. We lead with listening, then translate what we hear into thoughtful creative direction, information architecture, and design systems that reflect who they are and where they’re headed.
Our edge is our systems thinking. We don’t approach projects as isolated deliverables. We look at the big picture: how messaging, content, design, structure, and tools all reinforce one another. That’s where real clarity lives and where trust gets built.
Who is your ideal client and why?
We work best with purpose-driven teams: foundations, nonprofits, and values-based service providers who are navigating change, growth, or complexity. Some are scaling fast and need their systems to keep up. Others are reintroducing themselves after years of quiet work. All of them care deeply about quality, alignment, and impact.
Our ideal clients want to solve the right problems, not just make something look good. They understand that every touchpoint tells a story, and they’re ready to invest in making that story clear, cohesive, and deeply felt.
You’ve done an amazing job crafting the new NextNW website. Tell us about the special features and functionality our members should enjoy.
Thank you. The new NextNW website was built to support a modern, connected community of marketing and creative professionals. Members can now register for events directly, connect in industry-specific groups, and manage their profiles and subscriptions with ease.
What’s underneath the surface is just as important. We completely rethought the site’s structure, experience, and administrative backbone. The previous platform was limited in ways that made it hard for staff and members alike. We replaced it with a thoughtfully configured WordPress system using carefully chosen tools and plug-ins to meet the organization’s real-world needs, both now and in the future.
What features and functionality are in the works for the NextNW website we can get excited about?
We’re currently in a phase of iteration and activation. That means refining the member experience and supporting the NextNW team in fully adopting the systems we’ve put in place. We’re providing training, building documentation, and listening closely to where small changes can unlock big improvements.
This platform wasn’t just designed. It was architected to scale. Every enhancement we make is grounded in the same question: how can we help people connect more easily, manage more confidently, and engage more meaningfully?

For freelancers and contractors thinking about growing their service business, what are 1–3 lessons you learned growing Serenity over the years?
- Crawl, walk, then run. Start small. Break the problem down to its essentials. Once that’s working, build on it. That’s how momentum becomes sustainable.
- Balance flexibility with boundaries. The best client relationships allow for moments of generosity, but they’re also built on clarity. Know when to flex and when to hold the line. Clients respect both.
- Distinguish the what from the how. Clients share goals, but they also sometimes prescribe tactics. Listen for the outcome they want, then use your expertise to shape the approach. That’s how you move from task-taker to trusted partner.
What are your goals and plans for Serenity over 2025 and beyond?
We’ve spent this year laying a stronger foundation — for ourselves, not just our clients. We’ve refined our process, expanded our strategy practice, and taken a hard look at how we tell our own story.
Serenity is evolving into something more clear and complete: a design partner that integrates systems thinking, brand alignment, and storytelling into every engagement. We’re leaning into our strength as a hybrid studio, agency, and consultancy. Not to be all things to all people, but to be exactly what our clients need when clarity matters most.
Any parting thoughts for our readers?
Everything is connected. The copy. The layout. The brand voice. The structure beneath the site. The way a message reads, feels, and functions across time. At Serenity, we help our clients see that bigger picture — and then we help them build it.
We listen deeply to where you want to go, and then we connect the dots between vision, communication, and execution. When you’re ready for that kind of clarity, let’s talk.
