March 2022 Logo Remix Artist: Sydney Noland
Every month, we invite a new artist to take the ThinkNW logo and make it their own. We asked artist Sydney Noland, a local Seattle Digital Design Manager at the Seattle Seahawks to give us her take on this March logo. Go Hawks!
How did you initially want to approach your interpretation of the ThinkNW logo? What were your thoughts and inspiration?
When I was presented with the project to make my own interpretation of the ThinkNW logo, I thought about representing my growth and time since moving to Washington from Indiana almost five years ago. It’s been quite the journey moving 2,000+ miles away from everything I’ve known, but am so thankful for the experiences, opportunities, and growth I’ve had here and looking forward to what lies ahead!
How did the direction in designing the ThinkNW logo evolve/change over time?
When I first started sketching out the logo, I went more bold and graphic but slowly started to create something more organic and free-flowing.
What are some of the specific elements in the ThinkNW logo design that you feel are unique/cool/fun (i.e., palette, illustration, overall style)?
Looking at the final piece, I love how the letters flow across the composition and how the foliage is intertwined with the lettering. In a way, it represents my growth here in the PNW. As for the colors, I usually prefer darker and moody palettes, but this time I decided to do something brighter and lighter to represent the positive experiences I’ve had since moving here.
When did you know that art was something that you wanted to pursue?
I have always known that I wanted to pursue art in some way or form. I come from a creative family that has always been supportive of my talents.
What are your biggest inspirations in your art (i.e., people, places, things)?
I get most inspired from watching animations, going on hikes/being in nature, and visiting museums.
Do you think that you have a style? If so, how would you describe it? If not, why is that?
People say that I have a style, but I don’t think that I do! I say that because I always want to try new things/styles and experiment with different techniques. I will say though I consistently will keep my illustrations simple, but add texture to show depth and add detail.
What is most important to you when expressing your art?
The most important thing to me when expressing my art is that it speaks to me and who I am. I want it to be a genuine representation of me.
Where do you feel your art is going next?
I’m not sure where my art is going next, but my hope is to illustrate a children’s book one day!
